WHO WE ARE

The core family at UbiK media is made up of people who combine solid scientific training with over 15 years of experience in communication for R&D&I.

We are a multilingual team (Spanish, Catalan, English and French) with experience in both traditional and digital media.

One of the things we most enjoy is taking on the challenges of our clients as if they were our own.

STRATEGIC TEAM

EVA LOSTE

With a PhD in Inorganic Chemistry from the University of London, Eva has worked in the field of scientific communication since 2003. She has extensive experience working on communications for projects and research centres and creating scientific and cultural activities. She spent four years as a scriptwriter and casting director for the Spanish television programme Redes. In 2006 she took the post of executive director for El cerebro social, a centre aimed at informing the general public about social neuroscience. In 2008 she was hired as Head of Communication for the Educational Technology Department at the UOC (Open University of Catalonia). She works regularly works on educational magazines and training courses. In 2011 she set up her own science communication agency, UbiK media, which she has been directing ever since.

SILVIA BRAVO

With a PhD in particle physics from the Autonomous University of Barcelona, Silvia has worked in the field of science communication since 2001. She worked as an editor for the Spanish television programme Redes and has curated exhibitions for the Terrassa Museum of Science and Technology, “la Caixa” Foundation and the Regional Government of Catalonia. She was head of communications at the eLearn Centre at the UOC and the Catalan Institute of Palaeontology, and worked freelance for the Institute of High Energy Physics. In 2013 she joined the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where she managed communications for the IceCube Neutrino Observatory and coordinated an international network of 50 collaborating institutions. She joined UbiK media in 2018 as an expert in strategic communication and social media management.

SCIENCE COMMUNICATION TEAM

BEATRIZ BARCO

With a bachelor’s degree in Biology from Barcelona University, a Master’s in Scientific Communication from IDEC-Pompeu Fabra University and a graduate certificate in TV reporting from IDEC-UPF, Beatriz started to work in media in 2000, on the Spanish television programme Redes, where she spent 13 years as a scriptwriter. She also worked as a scriptwriter and documentary maker on other programmes for the same channel, mainly Leonart and Qué Animal. She has worked as a freelance writer on audiovisual projects in the private sector, on the radio and for the written press. She was an editor for the Redes magazine, Redes para la Ciencia, for two years and since 2009 she has given classes on neurobiology and perception at the Elisava design school. She has been in charge of audiovisual production at UbiK media since 2011.

SIOBHAN PARNELL

With a degree in Environmental Biology from the University of Technology Sydney, Siobhan moved to London in 2013 shortly after graduating and started to develop her interest in digital communication and marketing while working at a creative agency where she was responsible for promoting the activities of clients such as the BBC. Her current post at UbiK media, where she started working in 2018, has allowed her to combine and further build on her interest in science and digital communications. Specifically, her main tasks at UbiK media include social media management, digital content development and communication training for scientists.

MARTA LORENTE

Marta has a degree in Pharmacy and a Master in Molecular Biotechnology from the University of Barcelona. In 2018 she completed a Master’s Degree in Scientific, Medical and Environmental Communication at UPF Barcelona School of Management. Since then she has collaborated with Illustraciencia, the press department of the Vall d’Hebron Institut de Recerca (VHIR) and FarmaMundi.

In February 2020, she joined the UbiK media team as Community Manager.

LAURA VINYALS

Laura has a degree in Biotechnology from the University of Valencia and a Master in Research and Advances in Molecular and Cellular Immunology from the University of Granada. She has collaborated in the study of endometriosis within the field of reproductive immunology. Interested in dissemination and scientific communication, in 2019 she completed a Master in Digital Marketing at the School of Industrial Organization (EOI) and Generation Spain (McKinsey & Company). In 2020 she joined UbiK media where her main tasks are: social media management, content writing, audiovisual creativity and digital communication.

JÚLIA MASSÓ

Julia has a degree in Genetics and master’s in History of Science and Technology from the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB). She started working in the Communication Department of the Societat Catalana d’Història de la Ciència i de la Tècnica (SCHCT), where she discovered her passion for explaining the history of science. Her interest in science communication led her to pursue a Master’s degree in Scientific, Medical and Environmental Communication at the UPF School of Management. Since then, in her professional career, she has worked in several scientific institutions such as the Institut de Recerca Sant Joan de Déu, Fundació iSYS and the Institut de Recerca de Sant Pau. In August 2023, she joined UbiK media where her main tasks are digital communication, multimedia and strategic communication.

MARCEL VIVES

Marcel Vives has a degree in Biomedical Sciences and a Master in Neurosciences from the University of Barcelona. From 2019 to 2021, he has contributed to the research on cellular and molecular pathways and mechanisms involved in Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s and Huntington’s diseases at the Biochemistry Unit of the Faculty of Medicine (University of Barcelona).
In September 2021, Marcel started the postgraduate course in science communication co-organized by Eduscopi and the University of Vic. Shortly after, he joined UbiK media as a communication technician, contributing to the management of social networks, content writing and digital communication.

CLÀUDIA HUERTAS

Clàudia graduated in Biology from the University of Barcelona and in Business Administration from the Universitat Oberta de Catalunya (UOC). She began her career in innovation and technology transfer projects in the biomedical sector, forging an interest in science communication. She has participated in a number of different outreach initiatives, including a radio programme dedicated to health and sport. After completing a postgraduate degree in science communication co-organised by Eduscopi and the University of Vic, in 2023 she joined the UbiK media team, where her main tasks include content writing, social media management and digital communication.

PRODUCTION TEAM

BLANCA CARBALLEIRA

Blanca has a degree in Graphic Design and Visual Communication at BAU, University Center of Arts and Design in Barcelona. She continued her training at BAU with a course in screen printing and another in graphic post-production, which allowed her to get closer to the industrial world of graphic arts. In 2015 she worked as a digital illustrator for Snackson and, as a freelancer, also for Nou Onze Team, Italiberica and Balneario de Caldes de Boí, doing editorial, corporate and web projects. In 2018 she joined the UbiK media team as a graphic designer intern and currently holds the position of art director and graphic communicator, leading the creative team. She designed the current corporate identity of UbiK media and her main tasks include the creation of graphic and multimedia pieces for digital media of scientific dissemination.

LARA SANCHEZ

Having graduated in Illustration at the Escuela de Arte y Superior de Diseño Pablo Picasso and Master in Digital Graphic Design at the Escuela Superior Marcelo Macías, she has developed her experience in several foundations and agencies in Vigo, London and Barcelona, in the areas of communication, content, creativity and strategy. Her proactivity and innate organisational skills led her to become an art director and to participate in the organisation of various cultural events. On a personal level, she has participated with her art in several collective exhibitions.
Her experience in both design and illustration has given her a wide range of technical and creative tools, with which she joins UbiK media in 2023 to bring extra creativity to our projects.

ANA TEJEDOR

Ana Tejedor is an audiovisual content producer and photographer. Since graduating in Audiovisual Communication from the University of Seville, she has been directing and producing her own projects in the audiovisual world. In 2020 she took the Master in Scientific, Medical and Environmental Communication at UPF-BSM and began to specialize in scientific content. She has directed and produced the documentary No sé nada de gaviotas, which has been screened at national and international festivals. Currently, she collaborates with UbiK media in the production of video pieces for divulgation and research, while working for other clients in the field of science.

OFFICE MANAGER

SILVIA SORO

Silvia holds a degree in Advertising and Public Relations from Blanquerna, Ramon LLull University. She worked in several media centers (Optimedia and Mediaplanning among others), and communication agencies as an account executive and media expert. She joined UbiK media in December 2020 after 10 years living in Mexico and Argentina. Currently, she manages the entire Back Office of the agency.

EMOTIONS MANAGER

LÚA

Passionate about interspecies communication, she started her career at UbiK media at the early age of 3 months as an emotional manager. Her main tasks include cheering up her colleagues with long licks and frantic zigzags with her tail; in times of intense work, she is able to emit soothing snort-like snores that help to slow down the pulse of the office. When she deems it appropriate, she also activates the team’s alertness through quick thefts or inconsequential surgical bites. She combines her work at UbiK media with advanced studies in Electricity and Materials Science, specializing in stripping wires connected to the network and shredding any kind of solid.
