Blog Open Thoughts 2015

Blog Open Thoughts 2015

Last March a new edition of the Open Thoughts blog started, and in this case is asking to all contributors Are Big Data & Analytics shaping a smarter society? Its aim is to reflect about the huge amount of data being generated every day, which once analysed are used in many areas, like in the personalised ads on the Internet or in some tools that allow us to take advantage of the best deals when shopping.

In fact, the analysis of Big Data has already reached the education sector, through a process that is known as learning analytics. If these methods allow for ads personalisation, will they also allow for a more personalised training for students? Could they have a decisive influence in educating the citizens of the future?

These are some of the issues on which the blog will try to focus on, and with the participation of specialists from all over the world. This is the fourth Open Thoughts blog launched since 2012, and we have coordinated them all from the beginning. In this sense, we cannot but to thank the trust put each year into us by the Research and Knowledge Transfer Support Office (OSRT) from the Open University of Catalonia (UOC) to carry out this project.
