European Respiratory Society Course on Science Communication for Young Researchers
During the European Respiratory Society (ERS) annual congress, which was held in Barcelona in September 2022, UbiK organised two training sessions for its Networking EXcellence Training (NEXT) programme. The participants in these sessions are young researchers with presentations or posters at this meeting, which brings together experts in respiratory diseases from all over Europe. Specifically, UbiK designed the content and participation dynamics for a workshop on how to prepare a scientific presentation and another to practice how to chair scientific sessions.
We prepared the below video and shared it with the researchers a couple of months before the programme.
The purpose was to guide them in the preparation of their presentation, which they recorded at home or in their centres and which they initially shared virtually for our review. Finally, during an in-person workshop on 3 September, the researchers had the opportunity to practice their talks again and receive final feedback from UbiK and the other participants.
With these training sessions, ERS provides resources and opportunities for its young researchers to develop skills in communication, coordination of scientific sessions and efficient ways of giving feedback to collaborators that will allow them to progress in their careers. And they did a great job!
And for us it was a pleasure to accompany them on this journey, as it is always a pleasure to talk to and train others in what we love the most: science communication.
