Experiences with Augmented Reality
At Ubik we find important to help universities transferring their knowledge for the sake of all society. In this sense, the Universitat Oberta de Catalunya (UOC) has gained some experience in the application of Augmented Reality (AR), mainly in education but not only. Basically, AR connects the real world with the virtual world, so we can get extra information about nearly everything around us through our smartphone or tablet.
As a result of our collaboration with the UOC to transfer this technology and expertise, we have recently celebrated a shared success: we put in touch AR specialists from UOC with the real estate company Solvia to apply this technology to its stand at the Barcelona Meeting Point. The outcomes were excellent, as some media stated, e.g. in La Vanguardia newspaper. In the same area of action, we also punt in contact the same AR team with CosmoCaixa –the Barcelona Science Museum–, which lead to the possibility of seeing how a triceratops fossil skull comes virtually alive through our phone or tablet.
So far, we are delighted with the results obtained, and we are hoping to continue transferring this spectacular technology to more companies interested on its multiple applications.
