Rethinking University Support: A Gathering to Put Students at the Center

How do we ensure that university support is memorable for students today? This was the key question that inspired and shaped the event we designed and organized for the Universitat Oberta de Catalunya (UOC). A gathering that brought together more than 170 people with a common purpose: to reflect, share, and co-create a university experience that is even more meaningful and relevant for students.

The conference was conceived as a participatory, dynamic experience, and above all, centered on the voices that matter most: those of the students themselves. The session began with a surprise theatrical performance written especially for the occasion, in which four actors brought to life real student testimonies collected by the university over the past few years. This creative and emotional format served to highlight the concerns and aspirations of the students.

Subsequently, participants had the opportunity to listen to and interact with real students through live interviews, which allowed them to empathize with them during different stages of their journey at UOC. This immersion in the student journey gave way to the second part of the conference: a collaborative session in which faculty, management team, and other members of the university community rolled up their sleeves to rethink support at each stage of the educational pathway. The goal? To propose concrete measures that contribute to making learning at UOC a memorable experience, because it connects with each student in a meaningful way.

Beyond the activities, this gathering was an opportunity to collectively reflect on the core values and key elements that should be preserved and integrated into the university experience. It created a space to rethink, through closeness and active listening, what the support of the future should look like.

At UbiK Media, we are proud to have contributed to the design and facilitation of this “memorable” gathering, where dialogue and participation were the driving forces for change. It’s yet another example that putting students at the center is not just a challenge—it’s a commitment built day by day.
